    Back when I got my Glissentar I purchased several sets of strings and still have a few of them. I guess they might be worth a few bucks now. However, if I didn’t have the strings I’d say the hell with it and tie knots in the end of the Oud strings and go with it. Life is too short. If the bridge has issues with it later have it replaced. At least you still have a really cool, unique instrument.

      Nah, sold it - for the second time. If Godin cannot be bothered to support its instruments (one that it produced for nearly 20 years) and its customers then I don't really want to support them.But yeah, tying a knot in the ends will be fine. Go for it!

      Nothing goes through my mind when writing a bass track! 😂😂😂 Often I’m just trying to find something that just fits in the middle of everything harmonically and rhythmically speaking. Unless I’ve put the bass down first, then I’m just looking for something that’s hooky and again sympathetic to whatever rhythm track is there.

    The differences are quite indistinct aren't they. I remember a bloke where I used to work had one and seemed quite happy at the time. That was about 15 years ago though. I find the whole concept a bit of a gimmick and would rather use effects pedals or the actual instruments supposedly modelled. Most guitarists aren't that needy for paying a guitar with a different type of guitar sound built in. I don't suppose many Les Paul or Tele players think, "Oh if only I could flick a switch and sound like a jazz box guitar".

    • @DarrenLockMusic
      @DarrenLockMusic Місяць тому

      The Roland VG series of processors nailed the whole guitar modelling thing - they were very good and I used them exclusively between 1999 and 2019. Then I sold that gear because it was aging and I was in fear of it breaking down. Now I have too many guitars!!!

      I had a play on one of these a very long time ago, must say that I much preferred the telecaster setting than the real Tele though the LR BAGGS trem was a total disappointment, the play in the trem arm before the trem actually did anything was truly shocking.

    On my vintage '76 Stang the springs are looped tight onto the 2 bolts so they can never come loose. I suspect you could just crimp the loop on the end of the springs tighter with pliers so they cannot come off your bolts either. It's a bulletproof system and for 30-plus years I have never had an issue with mine. I think you are just unfamiliar with yours and don't understand it at all.

    I know this is 2yrs old.. But this has me considering modding a beater with HHH.. BUT using Fishman, they have 3 voices.. 1 voice being strat style single coil.. My mind wonders if that, could be the perfect jam session or cover band guitar with all the tones on tap. Instead of only stock HB the Fishman give that single coil voice, so I wonder if it can do true strat tone, and 2 PAF tones as well.. Its a fair thought dont you think?

    • @DarrenLockMusic
      @DarrenLockMusic Місяць тому

      It's worth a try, but it will be nothing like this sludge monster. The funny thing about this guitar is that it is sooo dark in tone with almost zero brightness in any setting and that's why I like it, because even though it is Strat shaped, it's nothing like a Strat sound!!!

    That was more dramatic than I had thought. I would think another 2-3 applications would really look nice. You’re absolutely right. So many people, including myself, get really turned off by how bright the wood is. With that wood having the wax, and oil, I would certainly think it would warm up the tone coming off the neck. Have you notice any difference in the sound itself after treating the wood? GREAT video.

    • @DarrenLockMusic
      @DarrenLockMusic 2 місяці тому

      There’s no real tonal advantage. It’s more cosmetic than anything else. With two or three applications you certainly can get rid of that dry and dusty look and feel of pao ferro. The funny thing is I’ve had guitars that have a pao ferro fretboard and the guitar company has already treated the wood, so it doesn’t have to be like that in the first place. I think it’s Reverend who use pao ferro and pre-treat the wood.

      @@DarrenLockMusic I agree…. These companies are cutting costs in every way possible. I’m trying to get over my issues with Pau Ferro. At the end of the day, the sonic differences are very minimal. But, yeah, the look is a big part of it. Seeing them hanging on the wall next to Rosewood, or even ebony, they just look cheap. But, these days I can’t afford to make purchases on that alone. That said, some of the Pau Ferro fretboard’s I’ve seen look incredible, and very “rich”. I’ve got my eye on a 2017 tele that I swear is Rosewood, given how dark and rich it looks. So, I may pull the trigger on it. There are some killer buys on the Pau Ferro strats/tele’s for those of us that can get past that part of it. So, this video was really helpful. Thanks again.

      The visual aspect is one thing, but there's also a "feel" that you get with pao ferro that I'm not a fan of. I don't know if it is psychological or that I'm so used to rosewood, but the PF boards always feel a little gritty to me - and again this is down to bad finishing at source. I have a Fender fretless bass that has a PF board and I spent a lot of time sanding it with fine sandpaper to smooth it out and using this application to make it look more like rosewood. But this all should happen at the factory...

      @@DarrenLockMusic Yes! I forgot about that. Although, with these lower end MIM guitars, the Rosewood had the same problem. My strat is from 2007-2008, and I had to take some fine-grit paper to that, as well. I've come to the conclusion that, short of buying a $4K guitar (and even those can have their problems), were living in a day and age to where, we're better off investing in some tools, and learning (at minimum) some intermediate guitar maintenance skills. In my case, I'm happy to pay someone to do that kind of work. But, these days, even in a big city like Orlando, FL...it's becoming impossible finding a *truly* competent luthier, who knows EXACTLY what they're doing, that's also affordable. I'm 52yrs old, and remember when luthiers were in every guitar shop on town. Another reason videos like these are so incredibly helpful to us relatively new at playing (or maintaining) this instrument.

    Beautiful guitar...Does it have great acoustic resonance while not plugged in? Thanks

    Good video. I wish there be more videos about the Korg SQ1 using it with guitar

      It’s a fun, cheap little hardware sequencer. Excellent value if you can pick one up second hand and might be new to hardware sequencing! 👍

    This may be the finest iteration of the mustang bass ever. I love mine.
